Amy Coney Barrett is intelligent and quick-witted, and she demonstrated that to great effect while answering a simple question during her confirmation hearing on Tuesday.

Throughout the process, Barrett has had very little sitting in front of her, with the exception of a singular notepad. At one point, Texas Senator John Cornyn couldnโ€™t help but notice how cluttered everyoneโ€™s space is with notebooks, documents, and more on their side, while her desk only sported aย notepad.

โ€œYou know most of has multiple notebooks and notes and books and things like that in front of us,โ€ said Cornyn. โ€œCan you hold up youโ€™ve been referring to in answering our questions?โ€

She did as requested and presented a notepad that had absolutely nothing written on it.

โ€œIs there anything on it?โ€ asked Cornyn.

Without skipping a beat, Barrett answered like a boss.

โ€œThat letterhead that says โ€œUnited States Senate,โ€ she said while smiling.

โ€œThatโ€™s impressive,โ€ responded Cornyn.

In short, sheโ€™s been improvising her answers all along and recalling things without any need to reference back to any notes. To repeat Cornyn, thatโ€™s impressive.

Everyone else seemed to think so, too.

Barrett has spent quite a bit of time being denounced and lied about, especially from the senators sheโ€™s being questioned by. Despite all the nonsense being flung her way, the one thing you canโ€™t say about her is that she is, by any measure, a stupid person. She has consistently demonstrated a level of intelligence that would fit well in such a high position as the Supreme Court.

Sheโ€™ll fit right in. Sheโ€™s been referred to as a โ€œfemale Scalia,โ€ a title that some were hoping sheโ€™d find insulting but, instead, found somewhat endearing.
