South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem slammed the โ€œridiculous messageโ€ from former President Barack Obamaโ€™s forthcoming memoir.

The Republican leader called out Obamaโ€™s hypocrisy overย the โ€œpossibility of Americaโ€ and his insulting blame-game in theย soon-to-be-released memoir,ย โ€œA Promised Land.โ€ Noem gave the Democratic two-term president a reality check on Thursday about his own administration and the mess he left for his successor.

ย โ€œIโ€™m not yet ready to abandon the possibility of America,โ€ Obama said in theย book which was excerpted by The Atlantic.

He explained that he wrote the 768-page memoir, due for release Nov. 17, โ€œfor young people โ€” as an invitation to bring about, through hard work, determination, and a big dose of imagination, an America that finally aligns with all that is best in us.โ€ His smug lack of self-awareness sparked a scathing rebuke from Noem.

ย โ€œWhat a ridiculous message,โ€ the GOP governor fired back on Twitter.

โ€œObama had 8 years, including 2 with full control of Congress. He sent our jobs to China, left our healthcare system in disarray, our foreign policy in shambles & our people divided,โ€ Noem added. โ€œInstead of blaming Trump, Obama should consider what led to 2016.โ€

The former president noted in the book that, while he had planned to have it completed sooner, heย โ€œdidnโ€™t fully anticipateโ€ the โ€œway events would unfold during the more than three and a half years.โ€

He went on to point to the coronavirus pandemic and its devastating consequences, the months of civil unrest and rioting in U.S. cities, and that โ€œour democracy seems to be teetering on the brink of crisisย โ€“ a crisis rooted in a fundamental contest between two opposing visions of what America is and what it should be.โ€

He stoked racial tensions, claiming that Americans were โ€œspooked by a black man in the White Houseโ€ and, in another excerpt, pointed an accusing finger at former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

โ€œThrough Palin, it seemed as if the dark spirits that had long been lurking on the edges of the modern Republican Party โ€” xenophobia, anti intellectualism, paranoid conspiracy theories, an antipathy toward Black and brown folks โ€” were finding their way to center stage,โ€ Obama wrote.

Obamaโ€™s memoir argued that the โ€œjuryโ€™s still outโ€ on whether Americans โ€œcan actually live up to the meaning of our creed.โ€

โ€œAnd so the world watches America โ€” the only great power in history made up of people from every corner of the planet, comprising every race and faith and cultural practice โ€” to see if our experiment in democracy can work,โ€ he wrote.

โ€œTo see if we can do what no other nation has ever done. To see if we can actually live up to the meaning of our creed,โ€ he added.

โ€œThe juryโ€™s still out. Iโ€™m encouraged by the record-setting number of Americans who turned out to vote in last weekโ€™s election, and have an abiding trust in Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, in their character and capacity to do what is right. But I also know that no single election will settle the matter. Our divisions run deep; our challenges are daunting,โ€ he claimed.

Noem, who has staunchly defendedย conservative values and the Constitution, set the record straight last week afterย ABC News host George Stephanopoulos echoed the mainstream mediaโ€™s call and asked if she was ready toย work with โ€œPresident-elect Bidenโ€ in efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

โ€œI appreciated that President Trump gave us the flexibility to do the right thing in our state and [weโ€™ll] continue to do that. He let me do my job,โ€ she replied before taking apart the โ€œpremature conversation.โ€

โ€œBut the other thing that I think is going on here, George, is that this is all premature. This is a premature conversation because we have not finished counting votes. There are states that have not been called, and back in 2000, Al Gore was given his day in court,โ€ she said. โ€œWe should give President Trump his day in court.โ€

โ€œLet the process unfold because, George, we live in a republic,โ€ she added. โ€œWe are a government that gets its power from the consent of the governed. That is the people. They give their consent on Election Day. Election Day needs to be fair, honest, and transparent, and we need to be sure that we had an honest election before we decide who gets to be in the White House the next four years.โ€
